Supporting Children & Families
Assistance League provides underserved children in the Greater Sacramento area with new school clothing each year. Shirts, pants, jackets, underwear, shoes, and socks are distributed to 39 targeted schools. For many children, this may be the first time to get new clothes or shoes.
What Do We Provide?
- New clothing, underwear, and shoes that instill confidence and boost self-esteem
- School supplies and learning aids for both the classroom and distance learning that might not be affordable for the family
- New pleasure reading books for the classroom and for students to take home
- One-on-one reading support in the classroom to enhance reading skills
- Diversity books are supplied to school libraries for teachers to read and discuss with their students.
How it Works
1. Schools Provide Lists
Based on the allotted budget and the approved list of items, each school sends our team their “wish list.”
2. Your Personal Shopper Buys
Items are purchased and mailed to the school.
3. Schools Receive Supplies
Clothing, hygiene kits, school supplies, sports equipment, books, and more arrive at each school.
…the support you have offered our learning community has helped us tremendously, from the books for our Falcon Awards, school supplies, clothing, backpacks, toiletry kits and the list goes on.
Please share our humbled gratitude to your entire Assistance League family for making a difference in the lives of our students. You are dearly appreciated.
Warmly,

Literacy
15,4 new and gently used books distributed the 2024-25 school year. Every child in grades K-3 in 37 schools in four districts received their own book to take home. Many of these children have no pleasure reading books in their homes and have never owned their own book.

School Clothing
Operation School Bell – Elementary provides thousands of local elementary school students with brand-new clothing, shoes, and hygiene kits they need to show up to school ready to learn.

Book Buddies
Our volunteers show up — yellow aprons, warm smiles, and a good book — to sit beside a child and make them feel like reading is for them. That’s the quiet magic of what we do.
Changing lives, one page at a time.
