Our Mission
Through Eyes Right, Assistance League of Sacramento volunteers screen preschool children ages three to five for vision problems — catching conditions like amblyopia early, when treatment is still possible. Because a child who can’t see clearly can’t learn clearly, we connect families to the professional care their children need before they ever set foot in a kindergarten classroom. Every year, more than 280 children are screened, so that clear vision and the confidence that comes with it aren’t something only some kids get.

An estimated five to ten percent of preschool children suffer from visual impairment, and early detection is critical because some problems cannot be corrected after a child is six or seven years old.

“When I received the eyesight referral about my daughter needing to see an eye doctor, I honestly didn’t think much of it. She seemed fine to me. But when I took her for her examination, the optometrist found something I never would have caught on my own. She has glasses now, and her teacher says she’s a different kid in the classroom. I had no idea how much she was struggling just to see the board. Thank you for seeing what I couldn’t.”
